Vienna – our “city of culture” – should once again have a Jewish theater and it should be the Jewish Theater of Austria, which already exhibits such high artistic standards. It would be a positive external sign of goodwill and an enrichment for the city’s theater culture if this company would finally receive the government’s support. The Jewish Theater of Austria dramatizes contemporary Jewish identity, religion, and Jewish-Gentile communication on stage. It strives to build bridges of understanding between people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.My own experience of a performance of “Pessach Ramadan” was deeply moving. It carried me off to a different world, where I lost the reality of place and time and could only sympathize, laugh, and cry with the characters of the play.My ticket to the show was a birthday gift. It was the most beautiful gift I received. It was a unique, unforgettable evening for me – a brilliant play. See it for yourself and you’ll know what I mean.I have great hope that there will be further support.
