"Pitom" means “suddenly” in Hebrew. Pitom Duo - Yoshie Fruchter (guitar) and Jeremy Brown (violin) - is punkassjewjazz taking cues from an avante/punk aesthetic and the experimental downtown NY Jewish scene, including producer (and music revolutionist) John Zorn, and Hassidic New Wave. This manic duo plays wild and frenetic melodies, supported by a mixture of dreamlike tones and driving distortion - Klezmer, rock and the avante-garde join together in a true marriage of inconvenience.

"Yoshie combines influences from Frank Zappa, Sonic Youth and Masada into a rocking band performing catchy, hooky compositions that both pay tribute to and challenge the Jewish tradition... Pitom is a hard-edged new addition to the legacy of Radical Jewish Culture."
-John Zorn

"I was going to say something nice about Yoshie Fruchter′s guitar playing but I′ve been too busy trying to steal his licks. Sounds like a virtuoso Talmudic dissertation on the corner of 2nd and Avenue C."
- Tim Sparks, award winning guitarist and composer

“A Dazzling Debut!”
- The Wall Street Journal

“Think of electric Masada on steroids... [Pitom] sound like vintage “Mahavishnu Orchestra” laced with “Sonic Youth” drenched reckless abandon. Count this gem as a top pick for 2008 regardless of genre.”
- eJazz News

“Fruchter is equal parts seminary school, jazz school and Nirvana’s ‘School,’ doing the same for heavy metal what John Zorn’s Masada did for free-jazz.”
- The Village Voice

"Fruchter is clearly a talent to be reckoned with.”
- Jewish Week
