At a public conference in May 2005, a friend of the Polsterer family described the people who stole the Nestroyhof from Anna Stein as “resistance fighters”. The Regional Direction (Gauleitung) of the Nazi Party, however, was of a different opinion. The documents listed below show how the Nazi leadership perceived the character and collaboration of each of the five “Aryanizers” of the Nestroyhof before they took possession of it in their successful quest for Jewish property. THE DYBBUK IN THE NESTROYHOF - A DOCUDRAMA OF OUR TIMES |
Alfred Polsterer November, 12th From the Director of the Personnel Office of the District Office of the Nazi Party To the Direction of the Secret State Police in Vienna, Morzinplatz 4, Vienna I Political Assessment: Polsterer Alfred, industrialist, born Jan. 10, 1886, resident in Enzersdorf an der Fischa The candidate belongs to the NSDAP since Jan. 1, 1940 under the number 8,495.730 and is also the member of various other party organizations. I see no objection to his engagement as an officer. Heil Hitler! Fahrion Field Director NATIONALSOZIALISTISCHE DEUTSCHE ARBEITERPARTEI GAULEITUNG NIEDERDONAU Vienna, Oktober 23th, 1940 Department for Political Assassment XI, Wasagasse 10, Tel: 21 19-5-50 bis 57 Vienna IX, To the District Office of the NSDAP Vienna Personnel Office Main Office for Political Assessment, Parliament, Vienna I. Confidential! Regarding: Political Assessment Name: Alfred Polsterer Birthdate: Jan. 10, 1886 Place: Enzersdorf an der Fischa Place of Residence: Enzersdorf an der Fischa The above has been a candidate for full Party membership since November 1938 and is a member of the DAF, NSV and TN. From a political perspective, he is beyond reproach. The Party leader in Bruch an der Leitha [where A. Polsterer was resident] has informed us that the Polsterer brothers are interested in [obtaining] numerous Jewish residential buildings. Until the defeat of the previous system, the Polsterer family firm did not have much to invest in the movement, yet they were quite generous with their contributions to the Christian Socialist People’s Front. Since the change of leadership, the brothers have likewise been most generous with their contributions to the NSDAP. It is not in the interest of the NSDAP to give them the special consideration they seek in the acquisition of Jewish properties. Heil Hitler! The Director of the Personnel Department of the [NSDAP] Regional Office What is the political position of the family members? [h. O.] unknown [in Enzersdorf], as they live in Vienna, in the 3rd city district What was (the political position of the family members) before the change of leadership? unknown. (Are the children with the Hitler Jugend?) they are not yet of age Is he worthy of the support of the National Socialist State? Yes. Does he buy from Jews? no Does he show any sign of asocial behavior? (If yes, explain each instance!) no Since the change of leadership, has he expressed any views contrary to the new State or to the Party? no Additional comments from the Regional Group Director: NSDAP Party Member Polsterer Alfred is highly sympathetic to the Party and [endorses] its ideas. He is most generous with contributions and is on the best possible path to profess his faith in the ideals of National Socialism. Enzersdorf a. F., June 2, 1940 Franz Jatuha Regional Group Director General Report of the Director of the District Committee: The above was a member of the VF (Vaterländische Front) until the change of leadership. He applied for Party membership in November 1938 and is a member of the DAF [German Labour Front, Deutsche Arbeitsfront], NSV [National Socialist Society of Social Welfare, Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt], and the TN [?]. As far as the purchase of Jewish properties is concerned, we are aware that the Polsterer brothers are interested in [obtaining] numerous Jewish residential buildings. Until the defeat of the previous system, the Polsterer family firm did not have much to invest in the movement. On the contrary, they gave their generous support to the VF. Despite the fact that since the change of leadership they have also been exceptionally generous with their contributions to the NSDAP, we have no reason to support their interest in the acquisition of Jewish properties. It might be advisable [to support their interest in Jewish property] if the Polsterer firm were to put their capital to use for the defense of the Reich instead of investing it in dead assets. Signed, Silbermayr Director of the District Committee |
